This is one of my favorite pizzerias in Bensonhurst, born and raised if your wondering .. I remember Josephine from the old neighborhood. I’d go in for a slice and she was kind of like my reflection on the other side of the counter. A lot has changed since I moved away, but Lenny’s is still there. Josephine is holding it down. She’s one of the reasons it’s still real on 86th. We see you, Jo. Thanks for the pizza, and the memories.. The stories are the reason that New York will live forever.. It’s too bad that desk jobs are glamorized and service jobs are minimized in our culture. Pay is grossly unfair. But I’m glad she has a heart to do what she does seriously, where would this world be without pizza?? . She was getting a lot more than just a slice of pizza. Other 40 year olds?! Is she supposed to be 40?! She looks 20!! Love this, those little moments really do add up when you work somewhere you get to serve the same people every day. Working in nursing homes gives me a similar fulfilling feeling. What a difference she has made in so many lives . A few years ago my Father, who had dementia, went missing for a few hours. He was nowhere to be found near his house. I was in a panic! I searched all the stores he frequented on the avenue and those he didn’t, but no one had seen him. I drove all over the neighborhood. I had my husband log into Dad’s credit card account, which I managed, to see if he had used it anywhere, but he had not. I had the idea to have my husband place an alert on the account so I would be notified if it were used. Fifteen minutes later (!) I got a text – the card was used at Lenny’s Pizza. Twenty-six blocks from where he lived! I have no idea how my frail father walked so far, or where he thought he was going.
