Many grandchildren would have said, “no, Grandpa, I’m just going to take you home” and left it at that. Your decision to go along with his assumption was not only a wonderful act of love, but afforded you something of value that can never be replaced. You are the richer for it.. This made me cry- I had a very special relationship with my grandfather as well- every time I saw him, he would say “You’re looking very pretty today, then again you always do”. Or showed up at my dorm with a vcr he got for me. He has been gone for 19 years and I can still hear his voice. So much love to you while you carry on his legacy and create your own. . My aunt lives on that block. He ALWAYS smiled as you passed his store. The floor sparkled white. The storefront window never had a so much as a smudge on it. I’m very sorry for your loss. I always say, if you are lucky enough to have grand parents, spend as much time as humanly possible with them. They are our history This makes my heart ache. It’s hard to conceptualize the huge numbers of people who’ve died from covid-19–almost 600,000 in the US, 3.71 million in the world—but every single one of them has a story and people who loved them that are left behind to carry on with the loss. May we remember all of the Grandpa Moes with love and help all of the Jens to heal. . This is wholesome in so many ways . Sad to hear grandpa Moe is no longer here but glad to know his legacy still remains and shines through you! . I love to see these micro-communities within the busiest city in the world. From the way she describes it, it could be a small town. I love seeing neighbors taking care of each other.

What a great story! My dad was a NYC taxi driver until he was 80 years old. We basically forced him to stop driving because he was starting to show signs of early dementia. I’m convinced he was the oldest yellow cab driver in NYC! He told stories of having Jacqueline Kennedy and The Rolling Stones in his cab, he was so proud. Even after going through throat cancer treatment he still went back to work and would hang his feeding tube bag on tree branches in Central Park so he could “eat”. He loved the city and his job so much. He was the hardest worker I’ve ever known. RIP . Such a beautiful story I also lost my grandfather during the pandemic but not from covid. Isolation is really hard, especially for the elderly You are keeping his legacy alive and nothing is more priceless . As an Italian American who lost her mom, who had dementia, from Covid, this story rips my heart out. My prayers are with you always, and so is Grandpa Moe.
