At that point, panting for breath, did Hester Prynne grasp the deadly token, instinctually attempting to tear it away, so limitless was the torment perpetrated by the smart dash of Pearl’s infant hand. Once more, as though her mom’s struggled motion were implied distinctly to make sport for her, did little Pearl investigate her eyes, and grin. From that age, with the exception of when the kid was snoozing, Hester had never felt a second’s wellbeing: not a second’s quiet delight in her.
