I’m glad Gene found some measure of peace between himself and God for what happened to him all those years ago. But I’m with you sister. I hope that sonofabitch burns in hell for all eternity after reading you and Gene’s story. Maybe that makes me a bad person, but I can’t fathom how anyone with a soul could do those things to two sweet little babies. Much love to you and Gene and continued blessings to you both. . My son’s stuck his 2 year old brother in scalding water, burning 75 percent of his body. Then dressed him trying to hide it. When he got to ER the clothes came off with the skin attached to them.. While forgiveness can be freeing (for you), sometimes it is impossible. Quite frankly, he doesn’t deserve the forgiveness, and I don’t think there is anything wrong with holding onto that. I know people like to point out how forgiveness will bring you peace, but I don’t know that I necessarily agree with that. And if anger or resentment brings you peace, that is OK too. The difference between you and the disgusting excuse for a human will always be that despite your (actually valid) feelings, you don’t act any way you please. He deserves to rot. This anger and your passionate perspective show the true power of your sibling bond. This is your love protecting Gene, just as he protected you. . One year?? What is wrong with this. Where is the outrage about child abuse. Why??. And she has EVERY RIGHT to not forgive. They say you forgive for yourself but she’s entitled to whatever she feels.. That is valid. I hope that her anger is not too difficult a burden. I hope that it warms her like a little coal in her heart, and doesn’t burn. My anger is like a sacred promise to myself to take it seriously when people hurt me. I don’t think you need to forgive others in order to carry anger in a healthy way. It hurt because it mattered, and it’s okay to be mad that someone did that. All this “I hope you can forgive him someday” stuff is pointless moralizing and frankly patronizing. I posted in the FB comments in my local paper about a recent event that I found upsetting and my comment was the first seen and I got hammered – like ten people tearing me down and personally insulting me for every supportive person. I can imagine hitting that little bell and seeing all these comments! Overwhelming. And it starts to take away from the courageous phenomenal woman who shared her story in the first place.. Dairy Carrie I always felt that when people say “you need to let it go”, that it sounds so dismissive, so minimizing and devoid of empathy, and you illustrated all of those points of mine perfectly.. Lisa Falcone. Dairy Carrie people who advise you to let go of anger have no idea what it is, and what it represents to those carrying it. Don’t insult her with your existential bs.
