Yes! “I’m a people person. That’s where I get my energy” It’s been an extra rough year for us extroverts. I just kept reminding myself the less I see people now the more people there will be to see when it’s over. My dad was a NYC bus driver for 25 years. I appreciate bus drivers–they sometimes deal with unpleasant people in very unpleasant situations–and I always thank them for the ride when I disembark. NYC bus drivers are the best.. Humans are not meant to be alone. That’s why solitary confinement is a punishment. I’m so glad you made it through this! . I’ve been a bus driver for 15 years, and this was the hardest year by far. I read somebody’s comment years ago about having a terrible day and feeling at the end of his rope when somebody drove past and waved at him. It made all the difference. Since then, I tend to wave at people walking alone as I drive past thinking I might make a difference in their day.. We can’t control much in the world, but 100% we have a choice as to how we act and react. We can choose to see the positive or the negative. And what we choose is what we send to others, which they reflect back to us.. Thank you for your service, sharing your stories, humor/coping, and for your connection to your passengers even during the scariest of times. Bus drivers have one of the hardest jobs in NYC!. As an Australian who has been to NYC a couple of times, I don’t understand where the ‘rude new Yorker’ bad wrap has come from. I’ve found everyone to be helpful and happy when I’ve asked for help, no matter where I have been.
