When my father died, his wife deliberately planned the funeral for the very next day (knowing my sisters and I couldn’t possibly get from Michigan to Florida in time), and to this day, four years later, I have no idea what she did with his ashes. So wonderful that you embraced the relationship with your Stepmother and quit fighting it enjoy every new chapter. What a treasure! I can only imagine the depth of this rollercoaster. Step-parenting is difficult but there are so many beautiful moments, if we are watching for them. So loved reading this and so happy for you all.. Divorce is hard. I’ve been there. Bitterness never works. Just makes everyone feel bad. I am so happy that you opened your heart to more love. We can never get enough love. Peace, love and health to you and your family.. I love your stepmom equally as much as I love my own . This is an awesome story. Feeling the love and respect. You were lucky to have both ladies. Your dad picked good ones.. Jana showed up and keeps showing up. That’s what moms do. And what a blessing that you’ve had two to pour love into you. . Char You are so beautiful in your grace and understanding. Yes! Chapters. It’s exactly how we grow, learning about ourselves and appreciating others. Yay! Jana!. This morning I had a long chat with my stepmother, who is still here, though my mom has passed away and my dad too. Since I was a teenager I’ve referred to my stepmom as “my parent of choice.” And I remember asking her when I was 15 that if she and dad ever divorced could I live with her. When I separated from my first husband and had anxiety attacks every morning, she would talk to me every day at 5am. She did this for 6 months. Nothing against my mom and dad, they were good souls, but my stepmother is one of the shining lights of this universe and I would do anything for her in gratitude for all she has done for me and my loved ones over the years. Next month she’s going to my daughter’s high school graduation which my husband and I can’t attend because we are in Canada and won’t be fully vaccinated in time. My stepmom just made arrangements travel across the US to be at our daughter’s graduation, so our daughter could graduate with family present. Thank you Dale Block you are one of the best people in this world.
