I’ve lived here 16 years and stayed through the entire pandemic. Feeling the life drain out of NYC was heartbreaking and terrifying but those of us who decided to stay always saw glimmers of light: the 5pm applause that echoed through the streets, the random dance party that broke out in front of our neighborhood coffee shop when it reopened (joy!!), places like Duane Park that continued offering creative entertainment like acrobats hanging from fire of it. There was still magic here. We kept it alive.. I was blessed to be able to visit New York during the quarantine and it was such an eerie experience. The streets were silent, but the stillness provided an opportunity to spend time talking with the people who make the city so special. It was heartbreaking to see and hear the struggles, but it was also uplifting to hear the tenacity in their voice. I am looking forward to my next visit. I am pulling for you New York! Luis is going to help make this happen.. Now I’m crying because a bus driver said Good Morning to someone this one time.. OMG, I LOVE YOU! I seriously hope I end up on your bus one day just so I can thank you for your shiny attitude.. He so perfectly describes how extroverts felt when COVID hit. You get your energy from other people and just being around them – seeing them happy, playing a part in giving them a laugh. And then they’re just not around and it’s so hard to re-learn how to get that feeling when you’re alone. We got through it, Luis!. Not sure why, but this gave me goosebumps as well as a tear and a smile.. I just had a really positive experience with my cashier at the grocery store. So much so that I took the time to type up a compliment to corporate. When you have a good experience, you never know how it will affect the person who provided it to you if you share it with others. As a native New Yorker living in Pa for the past 32 years we decided to revisit Ny once we were vaccinated. Every three weeks we stay overnight for one night to help support our favorite city’s comeback. I posted pictures and thoroughly encourage those that will listen to make the trip back. So well worth it. We will be back next week for the fourth time in three months to support the greatest city in the world.. Wendy Darling. And I’d like to shout out to the person who took the time to actually write to the transportation system to submit the commendation for the driver.. I’m in Ottawa, and I love it when I get the good bus drivers, that love people. Last year around this time. I work in a New York City Hospital. I will never ever ever be able to forget what I saw.
