I think this is just as valid and commendable a response as Gene’s was. It’s incredible that Gene is able to forgive him, but you were hurt by this man too. You have every right to be angry, both on Gene’s behalf and for yourself. So if holding that anger is what you want to do, then don’t let anyone try to convince you to forgive him. That man doesn’t deserve your forgiveness, and it’s perfectly okay for you to withhold it from him.. I know people are going to say, “forgive him,” “let go of the anger,” “the anger only hurts you, not him” but I’m with you, sister. That anger and hatred toward someone who shattered your life can fuel you to move forward when it seems like there is nothing else to propel you on. This is a beautiful story. Being a stepmom of two amazing kids has been an honor and responsibility I always took very seriously. They are off in college now and I couldn’t love them more if I’d given birth to them myself. They have their own wonderful mother and my goal always was to be the third person in their list to call when in need. So happy you found love and support in your stepmom and hope I can always do the same for my bonus kids . I lost my mom when i was 12, and my stepmom was unfortunate enough to come into the picture when i wasn’t ready to have another person in my life, so I had a lot of resentment towards her, too, especially because i felt pressured into being okay with my dad getting remarried by my (significantly older and already out of the house) siblings. I remember being told i was being selfish and dad deserved to have someone to grow old with. They were right of course but what 14 year old wants to hear that? So we didn’t get along for a long time. But as an adult i find I’m closer to her each year, and now that I’m stepping into a similar position with my boyfriend’s daughter i have so much respect for the way she handled me, and i think my mom would be really happy with the woman she helped make me. The lump in my throat is so real right now. What amazing guides you have had on this journey. Sending so many hugs.. Loved this. . Jana is a great lady. How understanding and patient she was to meet your initial resentment with love and acceptance even though she obviously wanted a connection. I am so glad you guys got there. . I think her mom’s spirit was present during all of these times and was using Jana to help deliver her messages. Jana is such a gift. . My stepmother wouldn’t even let my dad talk about our mom. My mom was his soulmate and when stepmother wasn’t around my dad would tell us that. It made me sad that she would never give him permission to talk about our mom, let alone tell family stories. She made everything a competition, she made sure we new her kids were always better, smarter, had more money than us. She makes sure we feel like losers. I’ve come to the realization after 30 years with my dad she’ll never change. I know my dad loves me, he tells me every day and I tell him back. I love you pops so much. Gosh I miss my moms hugs and her warm, gentle non judgmental ways. Thank goodness for your Jana, hugs
