Humans of New York that’s amazing! I can’t wait to hear all the stories. My husband was suddenly activated with his military reserve unit last year and 24 hours later he was gone. He was one of the first few groups of military members sent to NYC. He’s from NY, upstate, though he hasn’t lived there in years. Him seeing the city as a ghost town was heartbreaking. He kept a journal while there but I’ve yet to read it. I hope sometime soon we can head to NY to show our 5 boys the city in its glory and to visit family. . My father was a city bus driver for over 30 years. Anytime he switched routes, he’d come home with presents from his passengers. It always blew me away that these strangers would go out of their way to buy a “going away” present for their bus driver. But it is true that the individuals we meet along our daily routine become the fabric of our lives, and when those people are gone, we change. What a fortunate role this particular man has in being a part of the daily life of so many people. I hope the passengers come back so he can regain his energy and be the joy in someone’s morning again. . I’m a Nurse in NYC the lockdown of the pandemic the MTA bus drivers I had were my heroes! I often was the only person traveling on the M4 to and from the hospital to work & without these MTA workers I wouldn’t have been able to get to work to look after the covid patients. I always appreciated the smile and small chat when I hopped on the bus home after some of the toughest shifts I’ve ever had and seeing so much death. They definitely were the frontline heroes for me!
